Week 28: A New Year

I have had more doors slammed in my face this week than in all of my life combined. Sometimes the mission is a lot different than I thought it would be. The good thing is that we can talk to our Heavenly Father every day and tell him how we feel. And he hears us always.

New Years was pretty uneventful. We watched the fireworks from the room and ate 12 grapes at midnight (one for every wish; its a tradition here). 2016 was a pretty exciting and stretching year for me so I am excited to see what 2017. It was weird to make some goals for 2017 because I realized I will be here in Peru almost the whole entire year. It is such a cool experience to pass holidays with the perspective of a missionary. I think I have realized that as missionaries, we are still ourselves but with a nametag on. And when we have our black nametag on, we are representatives of Jesus Christ. That means we suffer trials with patience, that means we talk to crying women in the street, that means we pray to our Heavenly Father every day and that means we see miracles. And the cool thing is, is that when the name tag comes off or before it ever even comes on, we can all be representatives of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for our Savior and Redeemer and His Atoning sacrifice for us. I hope you all had a wonderful new year. Loves to all!

photos:me with a door, me with a lettuce truck (this is why we are not allowed to eat lettuce haha), happy new year! The people here are really superstitious and celebrate new year with strange dried animals. I think this is a sea horse we found in the street

Week 27: Christmas

Hey Kids!!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I know I did. At midnight on Christmas Eve, the whole sky in the whole city lights up with fireworks for almost a half hour. It was amazing to be in the middle of a city so far away from my family and to be experiencing such different Christmas traditions. But I know that I am where I am supposed to be right now.  I love that Christmas was on a Sunday this year. I also think that I was a lot more focused on Jesus Christ because there werent really any parties or tons of presents or anything like that to distract me from the real purpose of Christmas. I love our Savior, Jesus Christ and I know that because of Him we can be perfected and come to live with our Heavenly Father again. Every single person has something shiny inside of them and everyone has mistakes. That is why I love this Gospel so much. So that we can learn to polish up and be shiny for others to see. I love you all and thank you for everything that you do to serve others and be examples of Jesus Christ!
Have a great week and a happy new year!!

Week 26: Christmas is coming

Hey ya´ll!! Christmas is this week and I am excited. This morning my companion and I spent 2 and a half hours washing our clothes and sheets and towels by hand. It was so funny and also fun. I am a little out of practice but by the end of 18 months, I should be a pro haha. This Sunday, I had the oportunity to play the piano for the primary program in the ward. I am grateful for music and for the chance I have to share my talents with others. This week we were sitting in the park for a minute trying to decide where we should go and who we should teach. We said "good afternoon" to this older guy and he nodded and started walking away but then turned around and said "are you mormons?" we said yes and then he talked to us for like 30 minutes. He has the same questions as Joseph Smith! It always surprises me how much the people open up and share with us just out of the blue. President Johnson always promises us that the people here are ready to accept our message, we just have to find them. I love this country, I love the people, I love being a missionary and I LOVE MY FAMILY!!!!!
